This product was the result of a request to produce a sail-by-wire
device to allow control of a new narrowboat using either a handheld
remote device, or a modern smartphone.
The board is intended to control a boat that has hydraulic propulsion
and hydraulic bow/stern thrusters.
The main outputs use a PWM signal to proportionally provide drive to
the hydraulic valves. For boats with non proportional valves, there is a
software option to provide simple on/off control.
A servo is used to mechanically operate the engine throttle.
Remote control is done via a WiFi signal, normally encrypted to prevent
unauthorised access to the controls.
The circuit board is copyright to ourselves. We are opensourcing the
design, and making the boards available for purchase.
The board contains an Atmel microcontroller type atmega328p as used in
the Arduino "Uno" and "Nano" boards.
This device does all the work of controlling the outputs, and responding
to control events from wired on-board controls or via wireless.
The WiFi is provided by a device with a standard footprint that can be
changed to use bluetooth instead of 2.4g WiFi.
The sources for the board will also be available for download soon,
but again these are copyright to ourselves.
Unpopulated and built boards are available to purchase from stock.
Software will be available in source format to allow personal customisation.
Please enquire via our
contact page if you would like more information.
Pre-programmed microcontollers/boards are also available.
Our online catalogue will be arriving soon.
